Taxman shutters 100+ scofflaw businesses in 2 weeks

Santo Domingo.- From pizzerias to hardware stores andnearly every type of business in between, the Internal Taxes (DGII) agency on Sundayrevealed that it has shuttered over 100 businesses in the last two weeks nationwidefor failing to pay their taxes.

It said it will continue to close those businesses thatfail to pay the taxes due once the deadline expires.

The DGII said the shuttered businesses include those whofailed to pay the fines despite expired deadlines established by law and theextensions provided, for refusing to install tax registry printers, for neverhaving submitted their Income Tax Returns and for outstanding fines levied for usingforged tax receipts, among other offenses.

It adds that businesses which have reopened have compliedand paid the fines, after signing a statement of commitment to install their taxregistry system.
