Dominican Republic will host the conference “Business Future of the Americas”

Santo Domingo.- In celebration of its centenary, the American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic (AMCHAMDR) is organizing the “Business Future of the Americas” (BFA) conference on June 14. This highly significant regional event will bring together 23 AMCHAM chapters from across Latin America and the Caribbean to discuss crucial sectoral issues that will impact economic and commercial growth throughout the region.

The conference will feature prominent speakers, including President Luis Abinader, former senator Christopher Dodd (special presidential advisor for the Americas to President Joe Biden), and remotely, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo. Welcoming remarks will be provided by Vice President Raquel Peña, Luis Laguerre (president of AACCLA), and Edwin De los Santos (president of AmchamDR).

Taking place at the Hotel Embajador in Santo Domingo, the BFA conference will host renowned national and international speakers who will share their experiences and insights on topics such as nearshoring, value chains, trade facilitation, the energy transition, innovation and technology, and the rule of law. The discussions aim to shape the future of trade and hemispheric development, foster sustainable growth, and strengthen public-private relations throughout the region.

Notable speakers include Víctor “Ito” Bisonó, the Dominican Minister of Industry and Commerce, who will discuss the public perspective on the “nearshore” strategy. Eduardo Sanz Lovatón, the General Director of Customs, will address trade facilitation initiatives and the Dominican Republic’s ambitions to become a regional logistics hub. The conference will also feature experts in telecommunications, such as Andrés Vázquez Del Mercado (Director of Digital Innovation at América Móvil), and Silvia Constaín (former Minister of Technology from Colombia and Senior Vice President of Government Commitment for Latin America at VISA), who will share their knowledge on opportunities in the financial sector.

The conference will include discussions on the energy sector with industry leaders like Marcelo Aicardi (president of AES Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean) and Rolando González-Bunster (president of InterEnergy Group). Additionally, Álvaro Galindo (Dean of the Law School at the University of the Americas and Adjunct Professor at the Georgetown University Law Center) will address the role of the rule of law in driving economic growth.
