Police kill 2 gunmen kidnapped ex mayor of southern city

Santo Domingo.- The ex mayor of Bani, Julio Franjul was kidnapped at around 4pm Wednesday in the downtown offices, the local Police report.

Witnesses say four gunmen in a white Mitsubishi pickup took the former mayor from his downtown law offices, on the corner of Maximo Gomez and Independencia avenues, and sped off westward toward the city of Azua.

Police Regional commander general Juan Ramos de la Cruz Martinez said the driver, as yet unidentified, was arrested at a roadblock on the highway to Azua, and two of the assailants have been killed.

He said the fourth gunman is still on the loose, and elite Police units give chase in the mountains near San Jose de Ocoa..
