Former Haitian consul sees ruse in eggs and chicken row

Santo Domingo.- Former Haiti Consul General in Santo Domingo Edwin Paraison on Wednesday said sectors of Port-au-Prince could be behind the ban on poultry and eggs exported from Dominican Republic, "to divert the attention."

"Do not forget that the Haitian Prime Minister (Laurent Lamothe) was in serious trouble in the Senate from the use of some five billion dollars earmarked for emergency issues after the earthquake in Haiti," he said.

As a result of that hearing in the Senate – Paraison said- one minister had to resign. "Perhaps some part of the (Haiti) government wants to use that issue to divert some Haitian public’s attention."

Speaking on La Nota 95.7 FM radio, the also CEO of the ZILE foundation said he doubts that president Michel Martelly was aware that the ban was in the offing when Dominican par Danilo Medina visited Haiti last week. "Perhaps Martelly had yet to have that information when he met with Danilo Medina."
