Police, antinarcotics will no longer publish suspects’ photos

Santo Domingo.- Justice minister Francisco Domínguez on Wednesday instructed the National Police and the National for Drugs Control Agency (DNCD) not to publish photos of suspects until they’re convicted, or release details of ongoing investigations.

He also asked law enforcement agencies to hold off on describing drugs until certified by National Forensics.

In a letter to Police chief Manuel Castro and DNCD president Julio C. Souffront, Dominguez the law states that the criminal investigation phase isn’t public.

"We ask that you instruct your public relations departments to refrain from publishing photos of suspects by the media and social networks until they’re convicted, as well as other results of investigations until the requirements established by law are complied with," the official said.
