Unprecedented: Traffic cops fine truck drivers for using passing lane
Santo Domingo.- The Metropolitan Transit Authority (AMET) on Friday said it slapped summons on 81 truck, tractor trailer and bus drivers for using the passing lane along several highways across the country.
The measure by the traffic cops is unprecedented, because while they often pull those drivers over for similar moving violations, it’s the first time they write tickets for using the passing (left) lane.
In a statement, the AMET also said during the past 48 hours it ticketed 107 drivers for speeding, 14 for having worn tires, 59 for talking on cell phones, 61 for not wearing a seatbelt and 56 motorcyclists for not wearing a helmet.
AMET said it will heighten patrols along the country’s roads and highways, to prevent accidents and reduce fatalities.
