US: Dominican Republic makes lots of drugs
Santo Domingo.- A statement released by the United States Friday mentions Dominican Republic among the countries with the highest drug production worldwide, headed by Bolivia, Myanmar and Venezuela, which also figure as top traffickers of controlled substances.
The US list also cites Afghanistan, Bahamas, Belize, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Laos, Mexico, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Panama, and Peru.
The United States State’s Dept’s ‘Strategy Report’ says Bolivia, Myanmar and Venezuela failed to comply with international agreements on combating drugs. "These three countries have failed to adhere to their obligations under international counternarcotics agreements as well as when taking steps in this direction," says the report sent to Congress this week.
The US however acknowledges that maintaining its bilateral programs with Burma and Venezuela is "vital" to Washington’s interests.
