Washington.- The Dominican-born lawmaker in the US Adriano Espaillat on Monday stated support for his Chicago colleague Luis Gutierrez’s decision to declare himself in civil disobedience at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) offices, where agents handcuffed him briefly, but wasn’t arrested.

Gutierrez went to Chicago’s ICE Headquarters to inquire about the methodology of arrests and deportations.

Espaillat said Gutierrez, who represents one of Chicago’s largest Latino districts, deserves respect and described him as a great fighter for immigrant rights in the US. “I respect Luis Gutierrez and I think he is a great defender of immigrants. We have allied in Congress to assume the defense of the immigrants.”
