Top prosecutor wants to ‘draw attention away’ from scandal: deputy

Santo Domingo.- Leftist deputy Fidel Santana on Tuesday denounced that the beatings and tear gas hurled against numerous protesters in front of the Justice Ministry aims to divert attention toward something else and not reveal the names of the officials who took US$92.0 million in bribes from Odebrecht.

Speaking in the Chamber of Deputies, Santana accused Justice minister Jean Rodriguez of turning attention away from the scandal, noting that “like other officials he is being poorly advised.”

Speaking in Punta Cana on Tuesday, Rodriguez said that the population “doesn’t want names, it wants justice,” in an apparent backtrack of his pledge to reveal by May 19 the names of the officials who took bribes.
