Santo Domingo.- The belongings of National Police director Nelson Peguero have been removed from his office in police headquarters, according to staff members.

Local media report that the measure comes amid speculation that president Danilo Medina will appoint his replacement, in the wake of the recent uptick in violent crimes.

It was reported that paintings, plaques and other objects were removed from the director’s desk and his office.

The reports add that the main doors remain shuttered and that vehicles are denied entry.
