“A potential health risk has been identified in the province of Santo Domingo and the National District due to the accumulation of exposed solid waste, the presence of domestic animals, vectors, the emission of unpleasant odors and the burning of residues, which constitute infectious and contaminating foci for the rapid process of decomposition of them,” the declaration says.

The Environment minister added that sine several months ago various inconveniences have emerged with the Lajun Corporation, the landfill contractor, with the four mayors of Greater Santo Domingo.

During that period, Lajun was fined RD$15.0 million for mismanagement of the facility, while people ask if the company has a godfather in the government which keeps it operating.
