No deaths reported in Dominican Republic; widespread damage

Santo Domingo.- The Emergency Operations Center (COE) on Friday reported 11,190 people evacuated, of which a 7,926 were taken to official shelters.

It said Hurricane Irma’s rains and winds damaged 2,138 homes and destroyed 103. It washed out roads mostly in the northern half of the country, cutting off at least 17 communities.

COE director Juan Manuel Méndez, said mandatory evacuations continue in 19 provinces under heightened alert..

No reports of deaths so far.
