Santo Domingo.- Haiti’s socio-political turmoil could deepen this weekend with the announced protest for Sunday, a situation that stokes uncertainty and fear on the Dominican side of the border.
Haiti’s tension took a new turn with demands that president Jovenel Moïse step down on allegations of corruption linked to government officials, related to the Petrocaribe assistance funds.
Dominican border towns are also tense.
Diario Libre reports an unsuccessful attempt to obtain information from the Defense Ministry or the Army on the Government’s plans to protect border areas.
It emerged however that a meeting would be held today between the Haiti and Dominican Republic chiefs of police, and the Minister of Defense.
