16-year-old drowns on Puerto Plata beach

A 16-year-old boy drowned while bathing on a beach in the municipal district of Maimon, Puerto Plata province. According to reports, the deceased was identified as Starling de Jesus Mata Sánchez, who was swept away by the waves on the beach known as “Playa Larga” on Monday afternoon. After launching the search, rescuers and fishermen were able to locate and recover his body in Atlantic waters.

According to information provided by the local Civil Defense, “at 3:35 p.m., we were notified that a male person was missing in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean in Playa Larga, in the municipal district of Maimón, El Cambiazo sector, and we proceeded to search for him. The body was recovered by Civil Defense personnel and fishermen from the area at approximately 5:20 p.m.”

The deceased lived in the Santiago province’s Embrujo Tercero sector. More information is currently unavailable.
