President to inaugurate Santiago cable car tomorrow
Santiago – The long-awaited Santiago cable car will be operational starting tomorrow. President Luis Abinader will inaugurate the work and is expected to board one of the cars from the operations control at the central station building on Las Carreras Avenue.
A team of technicians and workers is finishing the work. The city is awaiting the start-up of the new transportation system.
On December 16, 2023, the president pressed the start button of line one and appreciated the progress of the infrastructure. He promised to deliver it by this date, and everything indicates this will happen.
On that day, Abinader said that this work, together with the monorail, is part of the Integrated Transportation System, which will bring about a real transformation. He emphasized that he is not exaggerating if he says it is a revolution of Santiago’s transportation to turn it into a model city.
Governor Rosa Santos informed that the first section of the cable car will be inaugurated on Sunday, from the sector La Yagüita del Pastor to the Central Terminal Las Carreras in Pueblo Nuevo.
The first section will cover a distance of 3.21 kilometers and have four stations: Las Carreras Terminal, Mirador del Yaque, Bella Vista Station, and La Yagüita Station, which will connect with the second section.
“This is a work of great importance that will give Santiago its value, it will contribute to the people’s economy of time and money. It will be a faster, safer and more economical transportation,” said Santos.
The representative of the Executive Power in Santiago informed us that the main public offices would be relocated to the central station.
