King Felipe VI to attend President Abinader’s inauguration

Madrid.- King Felipe VI will attend the inauguration of Dominican President Luis Abinader on August 16, as Abinader begins his second four-year term following his victory in the May elections. This information was confirmed by sources from the Royal Household.

The King will be accompanied by Susana Sumelzo, Secretary of State for Ibero-America, the Caribbean, and Spanish in the World, who has previously accompanied him to the inauguration ceremonies of the presidents of El Salvador and Guatemala earlier this year.

During the inauguration ceremony, where Abinader and Vice President Raquel Peña will be sworn in, King Felipe VI is expected to meet with several Latin American leaders. These meetings will take place against the backdrop of ongoing concerns about the situation in Venezuela and the disputed results of the July 28 elections, in which Nicolás Maduro declared himself the winner.

Among the leaders attending the event are Colombian President Gustavo Petro, Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa, and Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino. Upon his arrival in Santo Domingo on August 15, King Felipe VI will meet with President Abinader and also hold a meeting with representatives of the Spanish community residing in the Dominican Republic.
