Infotep marks 44 years of advancing technical education in Dominican Republic
Santo Domingo.- Marking its 44th anniversary, the National Institute of Technical Professional Training (INFOTEP) celebrates its long-standing commitment to technical and professional education in the Dominican Republic. Since its inception, the institution has empowered more than 12 million participants, transforming lives and strengthening the nation’s workforce.
“Such a significant number of graduates reflects our commitment to providing quality technical and professional training. We have equipped thousands of Dominicans with the skills they need to secure better job opportunities,” said Rafael Santos Badía, General Director of INFOTEP.
Graduates from INFOTEP have not only contributed to economic growth within their communities but also improved their quality of life, becoming agents of change and social development across the country.
“Today, just as in the past, we remain dedicated to training in fields such as safety, robotics, software development, and data analysis, ensuring that our participants stay a step ahead in an ever-evolving job market,” Santos Badía added.
INFOTEP has been a pivotal player in the growth of the hospitality and culinary sectors, enabling hundreds of thousands of workers to earn dignified livelihoods through direct and indirect employment. More than 200,000 quality jobs have been created in collaboration with industrial free zones, showcasing INFOTEP’s role as a key driver of economic growth.
Looking to the future
Santos Badía also shared plans to develop virtual platforms to accelerate scientific knowledge and expand educational offerings in areas such as technology, agriculture, and circular industries. The organization is committed to supporting vulnerable youth and Dominicans living abroad, providing them with skills and opportunities to thrive.
“Our focus remains on strengthening teacher training and collaborating with private educational institutions, ensuring we continue to pave the way toward a future full of opportunities,” he concluded.
Acknowledgements
“We want to pay tribute to the founders of this remarkable institution and those who have continued to support our training efforts. From financial contributions to the establishment of training centers across the country, every contribution has been vital,” said Santos Badía.
He highlighted the collaboration of business and labor organizations, including the National Council of Private Enterprise (CONEP), the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic, the Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Association and various regional and business federations.
Special recognition was also given to the labor movement, including the Autonomous Classist Trade Union Confederation and the National Confederation of Dominican Workers, longstanding allies since INFOTEP’s founding.
INFOTEP’s expansion from 2020-2024
Over the past four years, INFOTEP has undergone significant expansion, growing from eight to 54 centers nationwide. This growth has not only increased access to technical and professional training but also brought educational opportunities to entire communities, driving their economic and social development.
The impact of this expansion has been profound, helping to reduce unemployment and improve the quality of life for thousands of Dominicans. By fostering local competitiveness, this initiative promotes sustainable growth and empowers citizens to become agents of change within their own communities.
