Dominican Republic nears completion of border wall’s first stage

Dajabón.- Minister of the Presidency José Ignacio Paliza and Defense Minister Lieutenant General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre toured the border provinces to oversee progress on the perimeter fence project, which is 84% complete. This initiative, launched by President Luis Abinader, aims to enhance border security while fostering the economic and social development of the region.

The project covers the provinces of Montecristi, Dajabón, Elías Piña, Independencia, and Pedernales along the Dominican-Haitian border. With a total investment of RD$2,388,410,938.92, RD$1,944,304,856.24 has already been allocated, reflecting the government’s strong commitment to regional security. Paliza confirmed that the first stage is scheduled for completion by February 2025, while the second phase, which could extend up to 110 kilometers, will soon be put out to tender.

Construction progress varies across provinces, with Elías Piña at 100% completion, Montecristi and Dajabón at 98%, Pedernales at 97%, and Independencia at 40%. The project highlights the Dominican Republic’s dedication to securing its borders and promoting regional stability.
