Dominican Republic secures second term on UN Trade Law Commission
Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic has been elected to serve on the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) for the 2025-2031 period. This marks the country’s second term as a member of this prestigious body, following elections held on November 20, 2024, at the UN headquarters in New York.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX) highlighted that the Dominican Republic’s successful candidacy, supported by the Group of Latin American and Caribbean Countries (GRULAC), received unanimous approval with 177 votes. This achievement reflects the nation’s growing influence in global commercial law and its commitment to fostering legal security and equitable trade worldwide.
As an active member, the Dominican Republic will contribute to developing international trade policies, enhancing legal frameworks, and promoting a stable and predictable trade environment. The initiative will involve key institutions such as the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development (MEPyD), the Central Bank, INDOTEL, and Pro-Dominicana, among others. UNCITRAL plays a vital role in harmonizing global trade laws to facilitate international commerce and economic cooperation.
