Agribusiness leader sees bright future for Dominican agriculture
Santo Domingo.- Homero Antonio González Duluc, named Agro-Entrepreneur of the Year, expressed optimism about the Dominican Republic’s agricultural sector, particularly banana production for domestic and export markets. He described agriculture as the backbone of the national economy and emphasized his confidence in its potential for growth and innovation.
González Duluc announced that starting in 2025, his company will begin producing planting materials for essential crops like potatoes, aiming to achieve self-sufficiency and bolster food security. Highlighting the role of innovation and biotechnology, he stressed their importance in sustaining the agricultural sector’s development.
During the ceremony, led by President Luis Abinader, González Duluc was recognized for his contributions to agriculture. His company, Vitroplantas del Caribe, is a market leader in the Dominican Republic, exporting to nations such as Peru, Ecuador, Honduras, and Puerto Rico. The award and initiatives mark a milestone for the country’s agricultural advancements.
