National District Mayor announces fifth edition of Plastics for Toys
Santo Domingo.- Mayor Carolina Mejía has announced the fifth annual Plastics for Toys event, scheduled for Sunday, January 5, at the National District City Hall. This initiative, held on the eve of Three Kings’ Day, allows residents to exchange plastic bottles for toys, fostering environmental awareness while bringing joy to children.
Starting at 8:00 a.m., participants can trade 600 bottles for a bicycle or 300 bottles for a skateboard. Bottles must be clean, compressed, and include caps. Residents of the National District must present valid ID to participate, and each family can receive a maximum of two toys, with restrictions on receiving duplicates. If certain toy categories run out, alternatives will be provided.
Since its inception, Plastics for Toys has collected over 14 million bottles, making it the largest environmental awareness event in the country. The initiative is supported by prominent sponsors, including Banreservas, Claro, and Coca-Cola. Mayor Mejía expressed gratitude for the community’s support and emphasized the importance of family, hope, and gratitude during the holiday season.
