Citizens express concerns over toll increases and decline in basic services
Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic is facing growing economic challenges, with frequent power and water outages in parts of the capital raising concerns among residents. The situation is compounded by rising transportation fares and the increasing cost of essential products, making it difficult for many to meet daily needs.
Citizens like Marina Moreta express their frustration, noting that the high cost of living, particularly food prices, is alarming. “With the announcement of fare increases, things are only going to get worse,” she said. Others, like Doris Moreta, also highlight the lack of reliable services, with high electricity rates and inconsistent water and power supply adding to the burden. Eduardo Paulino echoed these concerns, calling for urgent attention to the issues.
Despite the widespread dissatisfaction, some residents, such as Daniel Jiménez and Antonio Burgos, remain hopeful, trusting that authorities will address the challenges effectively. However, the potential for further price hikes, especially in tolls, is a significant worry. As Luisa Javier pointed out, “If tolls increase, everything will go up.”
In response to these difficulties, many citizens are urging the government to take decisive action to improve basic services and stabilize prices, hoping for solutions that will enhance the quality of life for all.
