Marranzini highlights the risks of connecting solar panels to the electrical grid
Santo Domingo.- Celso Marranzini, president of the Unified Council of Electricity Distribution Companies, highlighted the challenges posed by solar panels during an interview on Tuesday. While supporting the use of photovoltaic systems, Marranzini emphasized the need for proper controls when these systems connect to the national grid, as their impact goes beyond individual installations.
Marranzini explained that the main concern arises when solar panels connected to the grid experience fluctuations, such as reduced energy generation during cloudy conditions. This sudden shift in demand burdens the electrical system, risking its stability. To address this, Marranzini announced plans to require all new solar parks to include battery systems to store generated energy effectively.
Regarding residential solar panels, Marranzini stressed the importance of regulatory measures to ensure stable energy supply. He noted that electricity distributors must maintain a reliable infrastructure, including cables and backup systems, to meet energy demands regardless of solar panel output. “Our responsibility is to guarantee stable energy for every connected home,” he concluded.
Stable energy requires more battery storage backup.
