Dominican Resistance Museum denounces efforts to discredit May 30th heroes

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Resistance Memorial Museum (MMRD) has condemned ongoing attempts to distort the historical significance of the May 30, 1961, assassination of dictator Rafael Leónidas Trujillo. The museum argues that efforts to downplay the event have historically favored figures like Ramfis Trujillo and former President Joaquín Balaguer to maintain power.

The statement highlights cases of manipulation, including discrepancies in Trujillo’s autopsy contradicting his driver’s account and the concealment of key conspirator Amado García Guerrero’s role. The museum also warns against the misuse of U.S. government documents to justify false narratives, such as portraying the 1965 April 24 uprising as a communist revolution.

MMRD rejects attempts to rewrite history in defense of Trujillo’s regime, particularly regarding crimes like the Mirabal sisters’ murder. The museum reaffirms the courage of the May 30th conspirators, who sacrificed their lives to end a 31-year dictatorship and restore freedom to the Dominican Republic.
