Virginia Antares: Trujillo ordered the Mirabal sisters’ murder

Santo Domingo.- Virginia Antares, a leader of the Democratic Option, reaffirmed that the murder of the Mirabal sisters was a direct order from dictator Rafael Trujillo, citing extensive documentation as proof. She condemned any attempt to deny this fact as a consequence of impunity and a failure to uphold historical justice in the Dominican Republic.

Speaking on Rumbo de la Mañana, Antares emphasized that the crime was planned multiple times before being executed on November 25, 1960. She highlighted that the regime rewarded those involved, such as Alicinio Peña Rivera, who received Patria Mirabal’s house, further confirming Trujillo’s direct involvement.

Antares criticized the Dominican Republic’s failure to confront its past, warning that distorting history for political gain endangers truth and justice. She urged authorities and society to reject misinformation, defend historical memory, and demand accountability for the victims of the dictatorship.
