FAO representative confident in Dominican Republic’s goal to eradicate hunger by 2028

Santo Domingo.- Rodrigo Castañeda Sepúlveda, the FAO representative in the Dominican Republic, expressed confidence that the country can achieve its goal of eradicating hunger by 2028. He highlighted the nation’s strong agricultural capacity, noting that it successfully feeds both its population and 11 million tourists annually.

His remarks were made during a conference organized by the General Directorate of Community Development (DGDC), FAO, and the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), where experts stressed the importance of addressing hunger both nationally and globally. DGDC Director Modesto Guzmán reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting vulnerable communities through coordinated public policies.

Castañeda Sepúlveda emphasized that eradicating hunger is a shared responsibility, while Guzmán reiterated that the government, under President Luis Abinader, is focused on delivering essential services to low-income communities and enhancing socioeconomic development in rural and urban marginalized areas.
