Death toll reaches 44 in Jet Set nightclub collapse

Santo Domingo.- The death toll from the Jet Set nightclub collapse has risen to 44, according to preliminary reports from Juan Manuel Méndez García, director of the Emergency Operations Center (COE). So far, 146 people have been transported to the affected area, and search and rescue operations continue, as authorities believe more individuals may still be trapped under the rubble.
Méndez assured that all institutions involved in the emergency response are working in close coordination. “We will remain here until all families seeking help for their loved ones have been assisted,” he stated.
In addition, the Armed Forces have established a blood bank to support hospitals treating the wounded, ensuring vital medical care. Over 22 state institutions, coordinated by COE, are working in shifts with heavy machinery, rescue technology, and trained personnel to continue the search and provide assistance.
My condolences to the family. With all the billions coming in, doesn’t the Dominican Republic have a department of buildings to make sure a structure can handle x amount of weight and occupancy?
The RD has many good regulations for the construction and remodeling of structures. However, obeying them is random, especially when government overseeing regulation conformity is soft
Building codes and every 2 or 3 years inspections?
