Holy Week travel alert: Santo Domingo Cable Car Line 1 to shut down for maintenance

Santo Domingo.- Commuters and tourists in Santo Domingo are being warned of a significant disruption to public transportation during the upcoming Holy Week. The Office for the Reorganization of Transportation (Opret) today announced the complete suspension of service for Line 1 of the Santo Domingo Cable Car from April 12th to April 20th.
The shutdown is due to scheduled annual maintenance, with operations expected to resume on Monday, April 21st. Opret stated in a press release that they are taking advantage of the Holy Week period, when demand for the cable car service typically decreases, to carry out essential adjustments aimed at ensuring the safety of all users.
However, to mitigate the impact on passengers, Opret has arranged for the Metropolitan Office of Bus Services Operators (OMSA) to provide free alternative transportation. These buses will operate on the same schedule as the cable car, transporting passengers between the Los Tres Brazos and Ercilia Pepín stations in both directions.
Additionally, passengers traveling to or from the Charles de Gaulle and Sabana Perdida stations will be transported by OMSA buses to the Rosa Duarte station on the Santo Domingo Metro, and vice versa, also free of charge.
Opret also clarified the operating hours for the Metro and OMSA buses during the Holy Week holidays. On Holy Thursday, both the Metro and OMSA buses will be available from 6:00 AM to 10:30 PM to accommodate the cable car suspension. For Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and Easter Sunday, the operating hours will be from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
The transportation authority reminded the public that cyclists can travel with their bicycles on the integrated transportation system on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
