Attention! Heavy rain is coming; 9 provinces on alert.

Today, Sunday, wet and unstable weather conditions are expected mainly in the afternoon due to the persistence of a trough. According to the Dominican Institute of Meteorology, this will continue to manifest itself at different levels of the troposphere, generating cloudy skies accompanied by moderate to heavy showers at times, thunderstorms, and gusty winds.

It added that these rains will be more frequent in different locations in Samaná, La Altagracia, La Romana, El Seibo, Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, Duarte, Sánchez Ramírez, María Trinidad Sánchez, San Cristóbal, Monseñor Nouel, La Vega, Santiago, Dajabón, Valverde, Puerto Plata, Santiago Rodríguez, Elías Piña, San Juan, San Pedro de Macorís, and Greater Santo Domingo, among others.

Provinces on alert

The Emergency Operations Center placed one province on yellow alert and eight on green alert due to cloudy skies accompanied by showers, thunderstorms, and gusty winds expected due to a trough.

On yellow alert are Santiago Rodríguez, while on green alert are La Vega, Monseñor Nouel, Santiago, San Cristóbal, Puerto Plata, Valverde, Dajabón, and Monte Cristi.

Temperatures

Temperatures will become hot during the afternoon and pleasant during the night and early morning, mainly in mountainous areas and valleys in the interior of the Dominican Republic. There may also be fog or mist.

For Monday

A trough will continue to affect our forecast area, causing scattered showers in different parts of La Altagracia, El Seibo, Hato Mayor, Samaná, and María Trinidad Sánchez from early in the day.

However, after midday, we expect an increase in cloud cover and rainfall, which will be moderate to heavy locally, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds in the provinces of La Vega, Monseñor Nouel, Hermana Mirabal, Santiago Rodríguez, Santiago, Monte Plata, San José de Ocoa, San Cristóbal, Azua, Pedernales, Elías Piña, Baoruco, and Greater Santo Domingo, among other locations.

Meanwhile, at night, rain forecasts indicate a gradual decrease in precipitation, limited to occasional scattered showers in some of the provinces on the Atlantic coast.
