55 recruits begin training for new Rapid Reaction Units in immigration control

Santo Domingo.- The General Directorate of Migration (DGM), in partnership with the University of the Caribbean (UNICARIBE), has launched a training program for 55 new members of its Rapid Reaction Units (URR). These recruits will support strategic nationwide efforts to enhance migration control. The initiative adds to the 160 agents already serving in the DGM and aims to professionalize enforcement through a comprehensive training process.

The program includes instruction in 22 subjects, including human rights, immigration law, tactical operations, Creole language, self-defense, and non-lethal weapons handling. The goal is to ensure interdiction procedures are carried out lawfully and respectfully. DGM Director Vice Admiral Luis Rafael Lee Ballester underscored the importance of courage, ethics, and respect for human dignity in this line of duty.

These agents will operate under the Military Immigration Control Directorate, responsible for overseeing their training and performance. The initiative aligns with President Luis Abinader’s national security and migration strategies, ensuring humane and lawful treatment of all detainees, regardless of nationality. High-ranking DGM officials attended the training launch, reinforcing the government’s commitment to professional and ethical migration enforcement.
