INFOTEP Director honors labor movement founders on International Workers’ Day

Santo Domingo.- On International Workers’ Day, the head of the Dominican Republic’s National Institute of Technical-Professional Training (INFOTEP) paid homage to the architects of the nation’s labor movement. Rafael Santos Badía, INFOTEP’s Director General, used the occasion to recognize the crucial work of union pioneers in the defense of workers’ rights and to ensure the dignity of labor.

During his participation in a commemorative activity organized by the National Confederation of United Workers (CNTD), the National Confederation of Labor Unity (CNUS), and the Autonomous Syndicalist Classist Confederation (CASC), Santos Badía stated, “Today I want to honor the valiant men and women who formed the union movement, who laid the foundation for the defense of the rights of all workers.”

Santos Badía delved into the history of Dominican unionism, highlighting key achievements won for workers. He stressed the pivotal role that technical-professional training provided by institutions like INFOTEP has played to empower the workforce and equip them with the skills needed for advancement and negotiation.

Present at the event, Minister of Labor Eddy Olivares offered his significant recognition, praising the international prestige achieved by INFOTEP. “This institution has become a global brand in technical training for workers,” Olivares affirmed, calling it “a benchmark of excellence that elevates the level of the Dominican working class.”

The activity served as a significant gathering for representatives from the union sector, government authorities, and members of civil society. It provided a space for collective recognition of the labor movement’s hard-won achievements and for reflection on the challenges that remain for the workers’ cause.
