Senate Committee upholds severance pay in Labor Code Reform
Santo Domingo.- The Senate’s Special Committee on Labor Code Reform unanimously agreed to keep articles 76 to 85—related to severance pay and unemployment—unchanged, preserving a key protection for workers.
Committee chair Senator Rafael Barón Duluc described the decision as a relief for the public, calling it “the thorniest issue” in the reform process. Senator Antonio Taveras Guzmán reaffirmed that the severance regime will remain as established in the 1992 code, emphasizing the commission’s commitment to maintaining social peace.
Senator Eduard Espiritusanto added that the goal is to modernize the code while safeguarding the rights of both workers and employers. The committee continues to review the draft article by article to ensure a balanced and thorough reform.
