Homes and local roads were destroyed by rains in Bahoruco.

Bahoruco, DR — Heavy rains have affected part of the country and damaged local roads and homes in Neyba, Bahoruco province.

The homes of Amantina Méndez and Marienny Encarnación were affected by the passage of the trough in the Panzo coffee-growing area. “It was a cyclone that swept through everything here. Everything is wet; I think the bed is going to rot.”

The water also entered the living room and bedrooms of Marienny’s house, which poses a great risk to her family.

“The water came up to the top, and I said, ‘I’m here in the name of God.’ The water came at about six o’clock,” said the young mother of three.

The downpours affected roads and inter-parcel roads, especially in Panzo, where vehicular traffic is difficult.

“There is no road. From Veinte del Aguacate upwards, it was damaged, and from there downwards, you can go down on a motorbike, but with difficulty,” said Daniel Montero Morillo.
Traffic is difficult in Majagual de Galván, where several areas were flooded. The streams did the same in Villa Jaragua and Las Clavellinas.

For their part, government institutions and city councils are working to recover the affected areas.
