Dominican Republic participated in 2025 Caribbean Renewable Energy Forum in Miami

Miami.- The Dominican Republic participated in the 17th Caribbean Renewable Energy Forum (CREF) 2025, held in Miami, where energy leaders from 25 countries gathered. Representing the country, Vice Minister of Innovation and Energy Transition Betty Soto presented the nation’s progress in advancing its energy transition, including grid modernization, regulatory improvements, and investment opportunities. She emphasized the collaborative efforts between the public and private sectors to ensure energy reliability and sustainability.

Soto highlighted the Dominican Republic’s portfolio of 33 renewable energy projects: 21 solar (1,033 MW), 10 wind (433 MW), and 2 biomass projects. Since 2020, the government has granted 111 renewable energy concessions, attracting over $1.9 billion in investments. In 2024, the energy sector accounted for more than 22% of foreign direct investment.

Additionally, Soto participated in a panel on green hydrogen, outlining early initiatives such as Cemex’s hydrogen use in San Pedro de Macorís and the country’s pioneering certification system, CertHiLAC. The Dominican Republic is the first Caribbean nation to adopt this system, reflecting its leadership in clean energy innovation.
