Uber expands services at Las Américas International Airport
Santo Domingo.- Uber has partnered with Aerodom—the operator of Las Américas International Airport (AILA)—and tourist transport company Sichala (Sindicato de Choferes del Aeropuerto Las Américas) to improve transportation access for visitors arriving in the Dominican Republic. As part of the agreement, clearly marked Uber pickup zones are now available at the airport, separated by service type: one for Uber Select and another for UberX, Comfort, UberXL, and Uber Planet.
This initiative aims to make airport arrivals smoother and more convenient for travelers. Laura Santillán, Uber’s General Manager for Central America and the Caribbean, noted that enhancing tourists’ first mobility experience is key to the platform’s mission to modernize transportation in tourist hubs.
To support Uber driver-partners, an exclusive waiting area has also been created near the airport. Monika Infante Henríquez, CEO of Aerodom, emphasized that the collaboration aligns with their goal of delivering efficient, organized, and internationally competitive airport services.
Tito Pérez of Sichala highlighted how this partnership integrates Uber’s technology with long-established tourism transport services, providing drivers with access to more than 30 safety features through the app. These include ride verification via PIN, real-time ride tracking, and emergency assistance, all backed by insurance from Mapfre BHD Seguros.
With Uber Select now extended to AILA—already available in Punta Cana, San Pedro de Macorís, Juan Dolio, and Boca Chica—this alliance strengthens Uber’s role in supporting the Dominican Republic’s tourism ecosystem, serving riders from over 120 countries.
