Santo Domingo Metro expands fleet to meet peak hour demand
Santo Domingo.- The Office for the Reorganization of Transportation (Opret) has so far received around 54 metro cars, part of approximately 18 trains, with about 18 additional cars still expected to arrive. The full fleet goal is 72 cars forming 24 trains.
The Santo Domingo Metro currently serves between 300,000 and 370,000 passengers daily across its two lines. The upcoming operation of Line 2-C to Los Alcarrizos is anticipated to further increase ridership.
The new cars aim to address high demand during peak hours, reducing long wait times at busy stations. Opret receives about three cars per month from Alstom’s manufacturing plant in Santa Perpetua, Barcelona, Spain, ensuring the delivery schedule stays on track.
