Botanical Garden and Digecac join forces to boost native plant conservation

Santo Domingo.- To support the continued growth and conservation of native and endemic plant species in the Dominican Republic, the National Botanical Garden and the General Directorate of Beautification of Highways and Ring Roads (Digecac) have signed a collaboration agreement. The partnership focuses on ensuring the supply of plant species for roadside greenery projects across the country.

Under the agreement, the Botanical Garden will provide Digecac with expert technical assistance to improve plant production and conservation at its nurseries and orchid garden. The Botanical Garden will also donate seeds of native and endemic species, while offering training programs for Digecac staff on plant care and biodiversity management. In return, Digecac will support the upkeep of the Botanical Garden’s green spaces through regular pruning and maintenance work.

The signing event was held at the Botanical Garden, followed by a tour of its key facilities, including the Seed Bank, In Vitro Culture Lab, and Botany Department.
