Authorities recover €300,000 in stolen Metro materials

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican National Police, in coordination with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, recovered electrical materials valued at over €300,000, stolen from a warehouse supplying equipment for the Santo Domingo Metro Line 2 extension. The theft took place on June 8 and involved materials that were set to be shipped to China.

Investigators revealed that the thieves disabled the warehouse’s security system by cutting power to the surveillance cameras, allowing a truck to enter undetected and steal two large rolls of 120-square-millimeter support cable, along with contact wire of the same gauge.

The crime was allegedly an inside job. Among the suspects are Enercido Viola Familia, a former security employee, and Jonathan Enmanuel Vásquez Núñez, who reportedly collaborated with an active-duty guard to carry out the theft.

On June 13, acting on a search warrant, authorities located the stolen cables at M&M Recycling, a business on La Española Street near República de Colombia Avenue. The materials were about to be shipped overseas by a company linked to the case.

To date, six individuals have been arrested: Dieussibon Pierre Louis, Osvaldo Reyes Bautista, Luegi Rafael Martínez Victoria, Jonathan Enmanuel Vásquez Núñez, Alfonso David Montoya Dávila, and Alejandro Rondón Acosta (alias “Jando”). Two suspects—Feliciano Viola Familia and Ronny Daniel Jiménez Gómez—remain at large. Authorities have called on them to turn themselves in voluntarily.
