Government breaks ground on Santo Domingo Sports Boardwalk

Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader and Mayor Carolina Mejía have officially launched construction of the Santo Domingo Sports Boardwalk, a major component of the Santo Domingo Integrated Plan (PISD). This ambitious project will transform 1.7 kilometers of the capital’s seafront into a dynamic hub for world-class sports and recreational activities.

The new boardwalk will include a skate park, basketball and beach volleyball courts, soccer fields, playgrounds, food courts, and restrooms. It will also feature a waterfront bio-health area, commercial spaces, shaded green areas, and spaces for paddle tennis, fishing, and pet recreation. A key feature will be the integration of the Monument to the Heroes of May 30th, enhancing the cultural value of the site.

Both Abinader and Mejía emphasized the project’s long-term vision and its potential to improve quality of life for residents. The initiative aims to connect nearby neighborhoods—such as Buenos Aires, Miramar, and Jardines del Sur—through improved urban planning, impacting more than 64,000 residents. By promoting sports, family gatherings, and tourism, the Sports Boardwalk will also contribute to economic revitalization in the area and is part of a broader plan that includes the revitalization of key city parks and coastal areas.
