“DR Moves”: INTRANT unveils new plan to reduce traffic congestion

Santo Domingo.- The “RD se mueve” program was officially launched this Monday by the National Institute of Land Transit and Transportation (INTRANT) as a comprehensive strategy to improve traffic flow in Greater Santo Domingo. The plan includes phased measures focused on reorganizing urban mobility and optimizing public space usage.

Alexandra Cordero, INTRANT’s Director of Mobility, explained that the initiative is being developed in coordination with multiple agencies and will be rolled out gradually, with most of the actions expected to be in place by the end of July. Key changes include traffic time controls, contraflow lanes, left-turn restrictions at key intersections, tunnel and overpass access regulations, and improvements to the traffic light network.

The plan also introduces staggered work schedules and new technologies, such as body cameras for traffic officers and an upcoming electronic vehicle tag system in collaboration with the DGII. These changes aim to improve enforcement, transparency, and traffic data tracking.

THIS! Finally, a step in the right direction. next, do MOTO only lanes. Either treat motos like they are cars and trucks abiding by those same rules, or only allow them to transit in the moto lane. This will solve a ton of problems. Also, eliminate UNATRAFIN driving 10km/h on the 27th.

Stepping into the right direction is not part of the national mindset of motor jockeys. MOTO only lanes are a pipe dream. Motoistas trip where they please, following rules for them is taboo. Moto only lanes would be used for… parking, market stands, car washes, or by street mechanics.

It is not difficult to understand reducing traffic congestion is done by cutting back the number of vehicles.

Most of us have observed the chaos of AM traffic entering Santo Domingo from the east traveling over the Ozama in lanes reversed to accommodate the steep numbers. Floating bridge during the AM is one-way only into the city. No comprehensive strategy will reduce the AM traffic in that area.
