Santiago prepares to break Guinness Record with World’s Largest Mofongo

Santo Domingo.- At a press conference held in Santo Domingo, organizers unveiled key details of the upcoming project “Santiago Inspires: The World’s Biggest Mofongo,” set to take place on July 26 in Santiago de los Caballeros. The ambitious culinary event aims to earn a Guinness World Record for the largest serving of the iconic Dominican dish.

Project director Clara Olivo and executive director Reymond Ulloa led the announcement, joined by general producer Eligio Reyes of the SMA Group, who is overseeing all event logistics, promotion, and execution. The event will showcase a team of top Dominican chefs, including Miguel Rincón, vice president of the Dominican Culinary Association; Solangel Velázquez, 2024 Guinness record holder for the world’s largest majarete; seasoned hotel chef Miguel Carela; and food safety expert and menu engineer Yaniris Beltre.

The official hosts for the event will include prominent communicators and entertainers: Jhonny Estrella, Bray Vargas, Lady Álvarez, and Brenda Sánchez, who will bring energy and national pride to the historic celebration.

“This is a project that combines talent, tradition, and identity. We want to show the world what the Dominican people are made of,” Olivo stated in her opening remarks.

The event is supported by the Dominican Culinary Association, the Dominican Gastronomic College, SMA Group, Amigos restaurant, and a range of institutional and corporate sponsors—all united in their mission to celebrate Dominican culture through food.
