Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader acknowledged ongoing corruption in the Dominican Republic’s border region but emphasized that his administration is the first to take decisive action against it. He highlighted recent convictions related to human trafficking, including a 30-year sentence, as evidence of the government’s commitment to enforcing immigration laws.

Speaking during La Semanal con la Prensa, Abinader stressed that individuals involved in facilitating illegal entry into the country are being prosecuted and jailed. He also pointed to efforts to reduce corruption by increasing the salaries of border military personnel, tripling their pay to improve morale and strengthen security.

The president reiterated his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption and illegal migration.

When are the military and police facilitators of the trafficking going to be arrested? Arrest them and trafficking will be reduced by a good margin. Do not recall any reports of them being arrested.
