Delayed payments threaten national dairy production

Santo Domingo.- A group of 18 veterinary and agricultural professionals working under the Dominican Republic’s Megaleche program has warned that ongoing payment delays are beginning to impact national dairy production. These specialists, who provide critical technical support to dairy farmers through the General Directorate of Livestock (DIGEGA), have not received their monthly compensation of RD$11,300 for over ten months.
The unpaid amount now totals more than RD$2 million, forcing the technicians to cover work-related expenses out of pocket while their personal transportation deteriorates. As a result, many dairy producers in the Megaleche program are no longer receiving the guidance needed to maintain production standards.
In a public appeal, the professionals urged DIGEGA to honor its payment commitments, stressing that timely compensation is essential for supporting dairy production and safeguarding the country’s food security.

Remembering a few years back, 2015, architect David Rodriguez committed suicide because government was not paying for his contracted services. Government officials targeted him as part of a loan shark scam they were operating.
Government is slow and especially slower with payments. There is no need for the delays. Is there another scam in the background?
