Amelia Reyes elected president of SODOMEDI after winning members’ preferential vote
Santo Domingo.- Amelia Reyes, a seasoned communications expert and public relations professional, was elected president of the Sociedad Dominicana de Medios Digitales (SODOMEDI) after securing the preferential vote of more than half of the organization’s active members. Reyes led the sole candidate slate during the recent elections, underscoring her widespread support within the digital media community.
The electoral process unfolded in an organized and transparent manner, marked by high participation across all regional chapters. Members praised the smooth administration of the vote and expressed confidence in Reyes’s leadership, citing her extensive background in corporate communications, institutional relations and social responsibility.
In her acceptance remarks, Reyes thanked her colleagues for their trust and outlined an ambitious agenda to strengthen SODOMEDI’s institutional framework, expand professional development opportunities and raise the profile of Dominican digital media on both national and international stages. “We will work to build a united guild that stays current and speaks with authority in decision-making forums affecting our sector,” she said.
Chapters in New York, La Altagracia and San Juan de la Maguana also took part in the vote under the stewardship of their respective secretaries general—Amado Khoury, Fernando Placeres and Franklin García Moquete—demonstrating SODOMEDI’s commitment to inclusive governance and global reach.
Reyes will head the “Innovation and Ethical Commitment in Digital Communication” slate, joined by Rita Pérez as vice president; Héctor Méndez as secretary general; Simeón Alcántara as director of organization; Cynthia Martínez as director of finance; Viryi Baldera as director of public relations; Omar Rivera as director of international affairs; Fahd Jacobo as director of training; Madeline Peña as director of recreation and culture; Juan Miguel Fox as director of social assistance; and Mario Lara as board member.
Joaquín Hiraldo will chair the Ethics Committee, with Mirola Matos and Wal Polanco ensuring adherence to the institution’s principles. The Review Commission will be led by Sugey Reyes, alongside Julissa Morel and Robinson Castro, overseeing administrative oversight and compliance.
