Minor earthquake shakes Northern Dominican Republic
Santiago, DR.- A mild earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.4 struck Wednesday night between the provinces of Santiago de los Caballeros and Puerto Plata. Geologist Osiris de León confirmed the event through a post on his official X account.
According to De León, the quake’s epicenter was located north of Santiago and south of Puerto Plata. He also shared a geological map highlighting the precise location and the tectonic faults involved in the movement.
The earthquake, though minor, is a reminder of the seismic activity in the region, which lies along several active fault lines. No damages or injuries have been reported.
