Abinader begins construction of new passenger terminal at AILA

Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader has launched construction of a new US$250 million passenger terminal at Las Américas International Airport, José Francisco Peña Gómez (AILA), designed to boost capacity, efficiency, and traveler comfort. The modern three-level facility will feature cutting-edge technology, sustainable design, and improved operational processes, positioning AILA as a leading hub in the region. Covering 33,000 m² with 10 boarding stations, the terminal is expected to handle up to 4 million more passengers annually.

According to AERODOM director Monika Infante, the initiative marks a historic milestone for the nation’s airport infrastructure, enhancing connectivity, investment, and the passenger experience. The new terminal will include an automated baggage system, expanded check-in counters, security lanes, VIP lounges, and improved shopping and dining options. A new apron will accommodate 13 aircraft at once, and 900 parking spaces will be added. The inauguration event gathered key government officials, defense authorities, aviation leaders, and the French ambassador.
