Santo Domingo.- Mónika Infante, the CEO of Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom), lauded the leadership and management of Igor Rodríguez Durán, Director General of the Dominican Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC), for his role in successfully bringing the alternate runway at Las Américas International Airport (AILA) into service on schedule.

Infante emphasized that the achievement was a direct result of close inter-institutional collaboration, with strategic planning and a shared commitment being key to ensuring continuous air operations during the upgrade work on AILA’s main runway.

Her remarks were delivered during the groundbreaking ceremony for a new, modern passenger terminal at AILA, an event led by President Luis Abinader alongside other key figures in the aviation and business sectors.

The new terminal project represents a $250 million investment and marks the first major intervention in the airport’s infrastructure since its founding in 1956. The expansion is designed to significantly increase AILA’s capacity to handle more aircraft, streamline passenger and security processes, and provide a more comfortable experience for travelers.

Infante reaffirmed Aerodom’s commitment to the sustainable development of the Dominican aviation sector. She also thanked the IDAC, the government, and all parties involved in the project, which she called a historic milestone for the country’s civil aviation.
