Santiago City Hall and SIT celebrate Restoration Day with cultural tour

Santiago de los Caballeros.- The Santiago Mayor’s Office, in collaboration with the Integrated Transportation System (SIT), marked the 162nd anniversary of Dominican Restoration Day with a cultural tour highlighting the nation’s heritage. The event began at the Recreation Center, continued along Benito Monción Street and the Cable Car Central Terminal (Station 1), and concluded at Duarte Park with an artistic program showcasing Dominican music, dance, and cultural characters.

Part of the “Family Summer on the Cable Car” initiative, the celebration offered free weekend access to the cable car for SIT cardholders, promoting sustainable mobility and mass transit awareness. Families participated in recreational activities, bicycle rides, and educational programs on road safety, civic duties, and the history of merengue. An exhibition also informed the public about the Santiago Monorail’s social contributions and impact on urban mobility.

Santiago City Hall emphasized national identity, cultural integration, and sustainable transportation during the event. “Family Summer” continues until Sunday, August 31, with free weekend rides on the Santiago Cable Car, which carries up to 4,000 passengers per hour. The cable car, inaugurated in 2024, charges RD$35 per trip and operates daily, with extended hours on weekdays. The SIT Santiago mobility card, valid for the cable car, monorail, and future system corridors, can be purchased and recharged at any of the four stations.
