INDEX successfully concludes first Dominican Heritage Week in the U.S.

New York.- The Institute of Dominicans Abroad (INDEX) successfully concluded the first Dominican Heritage Week in the United States, drawing over 10,000 participants through 12 events across Boston, Lawrence, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. Organized under the theme “Unity, Culture, and a Vision for the Future” and led by Ambassador Celinés Toribio, the initiative coincided with the 162nd anniversary of the Restoration of the Republic, commemorating national heroes such as Gregorio Luperón, Gaspar Polanco, and Santiago Rodríguez.

The celebrations included parades, concerts, art exhibits, conferences, and patriotic activities that highlighted Dominican music, gastronomy, and traditions. Toribio emphasized that Dominican Heritage Month and the Restoration anniversary reaffirm the diaspora’s strong cultural identity, while also strengthening family, community, and institutional ties abroad.

Participants, including families, youth, and community leaders, celebrated with great enthusiasm, transforming each event into a reaffirmation of Dominican pride beyond borders. INDEX highlighted that these activities help preserve national values for future generations while consolidating the Dominican brand internationally, projecting a vision of unity, heritage, and development for the diaspora.
