Leonel Fernández receives CES report on Haitian crisis

Santo Domingo.- The Economic and Social Council (CES) delivered its final report on the national dialogue addressing the Haitian crisis and its impact on the Dominican Republic to former President Leonel Fernández on Tuesday.

During the presentation, Fernández emphasized that Haiti’s challenges require concrete responses from the Dominican state. He highlighted the importance of precision in policy design, noting that “regulating is not the same as regularizing,” and stressed that it is up to the Government to decide on the next steps based on the recommendations included in the report. He also praised both the CES and President Luis Abinader for promoting dialogue among diverse sectors.

The report, which was also presented to former President Hipólito Mejía days earlier, outlines key issues such as migration, bilateral trade, security, border development, international relations, and labor. It compiles the work of six thematic panels and includes 26 lines of action with 151 proposals developed by representatives of social, labor, business, academic, and civil society groups.
